Rehabilitation Training

The elderly are very prone to fracture, which not only causes pain to the patients themselves but also brings a lot of inconvenience to the patients’ family members and increases the burden on the family. A lot of trouble can be avoided if people with fractures recover early. Doctors would advise patients entered the stage of rehabilitation as soon as possible because the early rehabilitation training not only can promote the recovery of physiological function but also can accelerate the healing of the fracture, to prevent the injured joint dysfunction.

Without early rehabilitation training, many functional disorders such as muscle adhesion, a stiffness of the joints, and muscle atrophy are common in people with fractures. In the early stages of a fracture, it is recommended that the patient rest in bed and place the affected limb in a comfortable position slightly above the heart, which helps to promote venous reflux and helps to eliminate swelling.

Two to four weeks after the fracture, the patient should carry out joint activity, the nurse can instruct the patient to do the motion of the affected limb without a load on the bed. At this time priority is active motion. Training should be gradually increased the intensity and range of exercise, and finally, achieve and close to normal joint activities. Through exercise, most of the functional recovery of the affected limb will be achieved.

One month after the fracture, it is recommended that the patient strengthen the intensity of exercise and expand the range of motion in all directions of the joint, so as to restore muscle strength. When basic healing is finished after fracture patients, the patient should continue to strengthen muscle force and restore limb function. Training intensity and frequency should be increased, according to the different levels of dysfunction. With targeted training, the patient can speed up the recovery of limb function.
